The Cold Feels Heavier

Some people do not stay because they feel loved.

They stay because loneliness feels colder.

And I understand that.

I understand how heavy silence can become.
How frightening it is
to lose the warmth of another person.

So people begin holding onto things
that stopped feeling real a long time ago.

Not love.

Just comfort.
Routine.
The fear of starting over.
The fear of sleeping alone with your own thoughts again.

Not because they are weak.

But because the cold feels heavier
than the lie.

Still,

if you could step outside your own life
and watch yourself from a distance —

would you truly look happy?

Or would you notice
how much of yourself
has disappeared
just to avoid being alone?

Because there is a difference
between sharing warmth
and slowly freezing inside a relationship.
